Building services consultants from across the South East took on the challenge of the track with an afternoon’s karting organised by ventilation specialist Elta Fans.
The event took place on 6 September, proving an excellent and highly enjoyable day, with the 900 metre Lakeside Karting circuit in Thurrock providing a stiff challenge with its twisty infield, a very fast back straight and the aptly named Devil’s Drop! The wet track made the going even more tricky for the 12 competitors from a number of consultancies, including Atkins Global, Comserve, DHP, C J Design, N G Bailey and Watkins alongside Mark Galifant and Glenn Hughes from Elta.
Michael Crees from Watkins Group was crowned ‘Elta South East Karting Champion’, drawing on his experience in the sport to negotiate the testing course and the difficult conditions. Joe Kershaw from CJ Design was placed second and joining them on the podium in third was Matthew Bradstock of DHP.
The day was organised by Maria Johnson, Elta’s key account manger for the South East region. Rather than joining in the thrills and spills of the actual racing, Maria elected to stay trackside to capture the day’s highlights with her camera. Maria commented – “Everybody had a great time, despite the weather, so much so that we are already planning a second event. There were some very impressive laps and some highly competitive driving – at times I was glad to be a spectator rather than being in the thick of the action!”
