Economy Minister Edwina Hart has extended a warm Welsh welcome to players, spectators and organizers of the ISPS Handa Wales Open at the Celtic Manor Resort which officially tees off today (Thursday August 29).
The Wales Open, which is supported by the Welsh Government, is one of the leading tournaments on the European Tour International Schedule and plays an important part in the drive to attract new golf visitors to Wales from both the UK and key international markets.
The Minister said: “ The tournament provides a great opportunity to promote some of the magnificent facilities we have to offer golf visitors from around the world. It also enables us to build on the momentum and legacy created from hosting the Ryder Cup in 2010.
“Last year’s tournament attracted around 44,000 spectators and delivered an economic return to Wales of £3m, while the international television coverage provided an unrivalled advertisement for golf tourism in Wales that money couldn’t buy. It was televised in 45 countries with a total global broadcast of over 1,600 hours, with day by day live worldwide coverage.
“I delighted to welcome all the players, officials and supporters and wish them an enjoyable and successful event.”
