Hampshire based global logistics provider PSP is to sponsor a yacht in the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race.
Called PSP Logistics, the 70-foot yacht is being named by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first man ever to sail single-handed around the world.
PSP, well known for its sponsorship of the PSP Southampton Boat Show, is a specialist in shipping boats around the globe. Already the Official Logistics Partner for the Clipper 13-14 Round the World Yacht Race, PSP has handled logistics for the Clipper Race for the previous two events as well as being a logistics consultant to the America’s Cup.
The PSP Logistics yacht faces a gruelling journey through the world’s ocean’s, calling at some of the most prestigious ports on the planet. Her journey starts with the official naming ceremony at Endeavour Quay, Gosport on August 16 at 2pm, when the crew of volunteers will meet the ship. She then sails for London for the start of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race at St Katherine Docks on September 1.
In this year’s race, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal, the leg from San Francisco to Panama will be called the ‘PSP Logistics Challenge’ and the winning team will be awarded the PSP Logistics trophy.
Frank Dixie, Managing Director of PSP, said: “We are vehemently passionate about the marine industry and the sport of sailing. We’ve admired the Clipper Race for years and relished every minute of being Official Logistics Partner. Now we’re even more involved in the race as a Team Sponsor, which is an amazing opportunity to build our profile on a global platform, while supporting something very important to us.
“Our sponsorship of the PSP Southampton Boat Show has helped us boost our marine division to account for 20 per cent of our turnover and we hope to build on that with the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity for the crew and we are hugely excited to be involved in it.”
