How the high street can react to changes in shopping habits is well illustrated by recent market activity in Queens Road, Clifton, Bristol.
Bristol based Chartered Surveyors, Williams Gunter Hardwick are able to report two recent client acquisitions. Firstly, at 75 Queens Road, a shop previously trading as Hi Ho Silver which had remained empty for well over a year, has been acquired for Virgin Media who relocated from The Mall, Cribbs Causeway. The premises comprise 539 sq ft on the ground floor and secured on a new lease at £28,000 per annum.
In addition, 35a Queens Road, which is opposite the city museum, has been acquired on behalf of Ladbrokes which is a shop that has seen a number of failed sandwich type operators in recent years and has suffered periods of standing vacant. This small shop comprises 340 sq ft on ground floor and was secured on a new lease at £22,500 per annum.
Williams Gunter Hardwick Director, Stuart Williams commented:
“A retailer predominantly selling cable services and a bookmaker are uses complementing other recent additions to Queens Road to include the popular Bills Restaurant and illustrates that the high street can survive but just needs to adapt to an ever changing world.”
