In the midst of the sweltering heat-wave that has swept across the South West, work has been heating up at Westpark 26 in Wellington, Somerset, as the building of a new terrace of business units has commenced in response to commercial demand.
Taunton-based commercial property specialists Summerfield Developments announced plans in May to build a further ‘Enterprise Unit’ at the growing business park, and initial building work on the site’s third block has now begun.
The new Enterprise Unit will provide a further fourteen units and a storage compound in addition to the 26 units currently in place at the park. Three of the units are already under offer in the early stages of construction, in a clear indication of the popularity of the commercial site.
Local Councillors John Williams and Norman Cavill were on hand to see the groundworks and the footings of the terrace block on the construction site.
Councillor Williams, leader of Taunton Deane Borough Council, said: “This is excellent news for Taunton Deane’s economy and for businesses in the wider region. Westpark offers a superb location and it is no surprise that there is such strong demand for these popular business units.
Providing employment sites and encouraging businesses to expand or relocate to Taunton Deane is a priority for the Council and I am delighted that Westpark is proving so successful.”
Councilor Norman Cavill added: “The growth of Westpark 26 is a clear indication of the strength of the economy here in Somerset. It is a very desirable location and investment for businesses, and it is promising to hear that the new units are already been snapped up prior to even being built”.
Ben Trickey, Senior Development Surveyor for Summerfield Developments, adds:
“We’re pleased to have been granted planning permission and to have already commenced work on the site. The expansion will give businesses in Somerset the opportunity to join the vast array of companies already based at Westpark 26, who are growing and thriving as a result of being based in such a strong location.
Demand for the site has been strong since we announced our intention to expand, so I would encourage any businesses interested in a unit to arrange a viewing as soon as possible”.
Units from 700 to combinations of up to 5,000 square feet are currently available at the site, which is adjacent to Chelston Business Park in Wellington, Somerset. Westpark 26 will ultimately total 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) of industrial and warehouse facilities. The site currently boasts a hotel and pub along with workshops and starter units, and other proposed uses for the business park are trade counters, offices and child daycare, along with car showrooms and a veterinary clinic.
