IM Properties has begun the speculative development of two logistics units at its award winning Birch Coppice Business Park.
The two units, measuring 165,600 sq ft and 168,900 sq ft, are being built at the North Warwickshire business park by McLaren Construction and are due to complete in January 2014.
IM Properties’ decision to speculatively build large scale sheds marks an industry first – there has been no speculative construction of standard distribution units over 100,000 sq ft since 2008.
The company celebrated yesterday’s groundbreaking by hosting a barbecue for commercial property agents, with each guest receiving a free pair of Oakley ‘spec specs’.
Kevin Ashfield, Development Director at IM Properties, said: “We are pleased to be leading the way in large scale speculative development. I’d like to thank the agents who celebrated the start of construction with us.”
Situated in Dordon at Junction 10 of the M42, the 400 acre Birch Coppice Business Park is the West Midlands’ largest rail-served development site and one of the regions’ biggest employment success stories. It is home to occupants including Ocado, UPS, Volkswagen Group, Euro Car Parts and Roadways Container Logistics.
