Aviation company becomes ILM accredited

Local aircraft engine servicing company, GE Aviation Wales, has achieved Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) status and can now deliver ILM qualifications to its workforce.

Through its centre status, the Nantgarw-based facility will begin to deliver a range of formal qualifications including the ILM Level 3 and 5 Awards in Leadership and Management to further develop and upskill its existing leaders and support the learning and development of aspiring leaders at the Nantgarw-based facility.

The accreditation comes on the back of the company launching an in house Learning & Development division aimed at developing its employees to support the future growth of the business. The division has designed a range of training programmes tailored to meet the learning requirements of the company’s leaders, apprentices, office support staff and its aircraft engineers.

Katie Owen, Learning and Development Leader, who has been appointed to oversee the site’s L&D strategy said: “ We are delighted to become an ILM centre. We had to go through a robust process to achieve this accreditation which will form part of our bespoke learning and development strategy. Our strategy aims to equip our people with new skills and knowledge which can be applied to their every day job roles, helping them to make positive and impactful changes in the workplace.”

The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) is the UK’s largest management body, combining industry-leading qualifications and specialist member services. ILM believe that good leadership and management holds the key to organisational effectiveness.

Chris Doherty, HR Leader at GE Aviation Wales said: “Learning and development is a core part of our business growth strategy and we are committed to fostering a culture of learning at GE. With a dedicated function in house and a range of formal qualifications tailored to meet specific needs, we will be able to unlock potential, up skill our workforce and help to develop aspiring leaders of the future, enabling us to remain world class leaders in the aviation industry.”
