The public are getting behind Armed Forces Day this year like never before, according to the party supply company Peeks.
The firm, based in Christchurch, Dorset, has seen a huge appetite in recent weeks for its patriotic flags and bunting.
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday, June 29, and people across the country are being encouraged to hold parties.
It was launched in 2006 as Veterans’ Day, but renamed in 2009 and this year it is set to be the biggest so far.
Brits are being asked to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.
Peeks, which is the UK’s largest party supply firm, stocks a wide range of patriotic products and has seen interest both here and abroad.
In fact sales for the day are expected to be at least double what they usually are, such is the enthusiasm.
Peeks has seen a sharp rise in interest in all its red, white and blue products as proud people across the country prepare to celebrate.
Nick Peek said: “This year will be the best supported Armed Forces Day if our sales are anything to go by.
“Last year we had the Jubilee and Olympics and this summer there is not so much going on so the Armed Forces Day has really gained traction.
“We have sold items across Britain and even to ex-pat communities abroad.
“Flags and bunting have been popular and so have the Union Jack pint glass holders as well as hats and themed table-ware.
“We anticipate that by the day itself we’ll have sold at least twice as many products as usual.
“We are very proud of our servicemen and women and Peeks has a long history of supporting them when we can.”
