A business network to inspire more women to progress in business in Coventry and Warwickshire has achieved a UK first.
Officials from the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) gave the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s Business is Good for Women network the lowdown on the prospects for economic growth.
Ian McCafferty, of the MPC, gave the presentation to the network – the first time the Bank of England has spoken directly to women in business in this way.
The Chamber organised the presentation after feedback from a previous Business is Good for Women event.
McCafferty summarised the reasons behind a difficult period for the UK economy but said there were genuine reasons to be optimistic that there will be future growth.
Angela Tellyn, of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said the subject of the event, which was sponsored by UK Trade and Investment, had been well received by the audience.
She said: “There is no doubt we are still living in uncertain times but Ian’s message was loud and clear – the economic recovery shown over the last 12 months may continue to be slow but some of the turbulence that we have seen in the past is starting to pass.
“Our last Business is Good for Women event drew feedback that suggested this network wanted more informative presentations such as this and we were delighted that the Bank of England were able to oblige and it transpired that this was a first for them too.
“We hope the presentation will have given women more confidence to back their business ideas and to seek access to finance to either set-up their own company or grow an already established business.”
