Bridgend based property company Jehu Group has announced a leading mental health organisation as its charity partner of the year.
Mind Cymru has been selected due to its long standing commitment to mental health issues in Wales.
Established in 1973, the organisation is recognised as an influential partner in the development of mental health and community care policy in Wales, working alongside the Welsh Government, and other parties.
Mind Cymru funds campaigns and research, and its 20 local associations across Wales, directly support people with mental health conditions, including depression and schizophrenia.
As one in four people in Wales will have a mental health problem in any given year, Jehu Group’s investment will help the charity to carry out initiatives that raise awareness of mental illness and offer advice to individuals across the country.
Statistics show 20% of the workforce are likely to have mental health issues at any one time, putting significant strain on Welsh work places. As part of the partnership, the house builder will help Mind Cymru to promote the benefits of a mentally healthy workforce.
David Bentley Miller, Resources Manager for Mind Cymru, said that the collaboration will help the charity to deliver important messages.
“Working with the Jehu Group will enable us to highlight the importance of good mental health, particularly in small to medium work places where staff wellbeing is crucial to business performance.
“2013 marks our 40th anniversary and I am looking forward to planning activities with Jehu that will help us to reach and support more people”.
Andrea Gardner, Sales Manager at Waterstone Homes, part of the Jehu Group, said:
“I am thrilled that Mind Cymru are our charity partner, as I am inspired by the work they do to combat mental health problems in Wales.
“We are keen to work with the charity to raise awareness. As a business, we want to ensure our staff are aware of what assistance is available to them and know that we can offer support.
“We have many ideas planned, including a skydive, which I will be taking part in. I am passionate about helping to improve mental health in Wales and I am confident that our collaboration will ensure that we will make a difference and improve lives.”
