Wales-headquartered health and social care provider, Shaw healthcare, has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of a new deputy director of care and quality.
Alain Sockalingum, 53, who is originally from Mauritius, takes up the position from his previous role as a manager of a secure hospital in England that specialises in the assessment and treatment of adult mental health and learning disability patients.
After coming to the UK to study when he was 19, Mr Sockalingum trained as a learning disability and general nurse before moving into healthcare management. He has over 30 years’ experience in the healthcare sector and holds an MSC in Forensic Mental Health & Learning Disabilities from the University of Birmingham.
In his new role, Mr Sockalingum will be responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and quality standards across the organisation, and will review and strengthen clinical governance structures to ensure that service users, carers, relatives, staff and key stakeholders are involved throughout the process.
Mr Sockalingum said: “Shaw is a passionate company that truly wants to make a difference, and that is something that is incredibly important to me. They have a genuine passion and commitment to quality care.
“My goals on joining Shaw are to continue to drive the quality and safety agenda, and ensure that we always achieve the very best when it comes to patient care. There will be challenges ahead due to the nature of the services we deliver, but this is not a new thing, and my role is to make sure we have the right people in place to do the job.”
Suzanne Hughes, director of care and operations at Shaw healthcare, said: “We’re thrilled that someone as dedicated as Alain has been able to step up to the role.
“He has a huge amount of practical experience working on the front line in the healthcare sector, and is exactly the sort of person we need to help Shaw build upon the high-quality care services it already provides.”
Shaw healthcare is one of the UK’s leading health and social care providers and provides care to individuals in nursing and residential homes, hospitals, supported living arrangements, extra care schemes and domiciliary care settings across the UK.
