The Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry has signed a new agreement with Warwickshire College as part of its growing apprentice training programme.
The agreement means the Manufacturing Technology Centre will take on a further 10 engineering apprentices in September, in addition to the 13 apprentices already going through the joint programme with Warwickshire College. The programme is now in its second year.
The trainees will develop skills across a wide range of manufacturing processes and tool room techniques during their four year apprenticeship.
The MTC’s operations director Leigh Carnes, said, “We are delighted to be continuing our fruitful relationship with Warwickshire College. Our apprentices are involved in projects across the MTC’s research activities, learning valuable skills that will help their progression into a long term career in engineering. Working with Warwickshire College, they will gain necessary qualifications, while being exposed to a unique research environment and cutting edge projects at the MTC.”
Warwickshire College forms partnerships with employers across the region and is proud of its reputation for connecting education with entrepreneurship.
The Manufacturing Technology Centre opened in 2011 following a £40 million cash injection from the West and East Midlands development agencies. It is a partnership between some of the UK’s major global manufacturers and three forward-thinking universities: Birmingham, Nottingham and Loughborough as well as TWI Ltd, the operating division of The Welding Institute.
The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy.
The areas of MTC’s technology focus are appropriate to both large and small companies and are applicable across industry sectors.
