Interior architects Monteith Scott has been appointed to design the office accommodation for an innovative green energy project in Lincolnshire.
The Energy from Waste (EfW) plant at North Hykeham, near Lincoln, is being constructed for Lincolnshire County Council and will provide a long-term solution for treating the county’s residual household and commercial waste more sustainably. As well as generating valuable, low carbon electricity, the plant will significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
The project, which is due to be in operation later this year, is being built on 3.1 hectares of land and includes a visitor centre. It will create 33 jobs.
The EfW facility will be operated by leading recycling and energy company FCC Environment. It will treat 150,000 tonnes of residual waste a year and generate enough electricity to power more than 10,000 homes.
Birmingham-based Monteith Scott has provided a consultancy service on finishes and lighting for the office accommodation and customer-facing spaces.
Design director Derek Matthews said: “We are excited to be working on this innovative project, alongside Weedon Architects. As part of the consultations we have suggested ways to visually link the ground floor reception area with the upper floors to create better transparency. We are also developing proposals for how to best incorporate the company’s strong brand guidelines within the design of the offices and visitor centre.
“We were introduced to FCC Environment by Weedon Architects after working successfully together on a new build scheme for West Herts College in Watford.”
