Browne Jacobson celebrated back to back success at the Nottinghamshire Law Society Legal Awards 2013 when it won one of the main awards on the night for the second year running.
Employment partner Edward Benson was presented with the Society’s ‘Solicitor of the Year’ award which was won last year by Browne Jacobson’s Head of Education, Mark Blois.
Edward has extensive experience of employment law and is a specialist in defending all types of employment tribunal claims, including substantial multi-claimant discrimination claims; unfair dismissal and TUPE claims. He also advises local and other public authorities on employment contracts, policies and procedures.
His most recent and high profile success included a major victory in the Supreme Court, representing retired Recorder (part-time judge) Dermod O’Brien QC in his claim that he was entitled to a judicial pension on retirement pro rata to the pension of full-time circuit judges. Mr O’Brien alleged he was being discriminated against and that this was unlawful under European law as set out in the Part-time Workers Directive.
