GVA advises on Nailsea’s new state of the art centre

A new joint cadet centre in Nailsea for the Wessex Reserve Forces and Cadets Association has been completed. It is the culmination of over two years of planning and preparation by the RFCA, who have been helped by Bristol based commercial property adviser GVA from the outset.

The new £540,000 building is situated at Greenfield Crescent in Nailsea.

Two groups of cadets will now be using the centre – the ACF Nailsea Platoon and ATC 2467 (Nailsea) Squadron. The ATC have previously been using run down premises close by, while in 2009 the ACF hut suffered fire damage and was demolished as a result.

A single storey, red brick building, the new centre has been designed and built with low maintenance a priority.

The 240 sq m cadet centre includes a drill hall, offices and administration, classrooms and stores. There is a 150 sq m training theatre, and outside a new parade square.

The building will be officially opened later this year.

Specialists at GVA have been working with the Wessex RFCA throughout the planning and delivery of the new facility, including the preparation of an investment appraisal, architectural services, preparation and submission of the planning application, quantity surveying, and project managing the construction, which was all completed within budget.

GVA Project Manager Jonathan Mansell says, “The new facilities offer the cadets a smart new home that includes a new drill hall and training theatre. It is the culmination of two years’ work that has resulted in a facility which was much needed and will be well used for many years to come.”

Mark Hickson, Works Officer (Projects), Wessex Reserve Forces And Cadet Association, adds, “Wessex are proud to undertake a new Joint Cadet Centre in association with the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps, to finally re-home the cadets into a facility that they can now call home and be proud of. We hope this will now rejuvenate the cadet experience in Nailsea and encourage further recruits to join in and use this fantastic facility.”
