Harwell appoints Glencar to design and build new 70,000 sq ft multi-occupier, tech development

Glencar has announced its appointment as the main contractor Harwell Science and Innovation Campus for the design and build of a new 70,000 sq. ft multi-occupier, tech development being developed speculatively at the campus.

The project will involve constructing a state-of-the-art, multi-use building, designed to provide flexible leasing options for multiple mid-tech units. The development will be delivered to a ‘shell’ specification, allowing future tenants the flexibility to customise the space to meet their specific requirements.

Construction began in March, with an initial six-week enabling works phase, and the overall development is scheduled for completion in February 2026, with a total build programme of 50 weeks.

Key Features and Sustainability Commitments

  • Extensive cut & fill works, ground stabilisation, and retaining wall installations
  • Pad foundations, steel frame with recycled content, and standing seam roofing & cladding
  • Curtain walling and high-quality hard & soft landscaping
  • Designed to meet Carbon Net Zero in construction
  • Targeting BREEAM Very Good certification for sustainability excellence
