Engineering and construction company Trant has won a hat-trick of health and safety commendations for its water engineering work in the Channel Islands.
The multi-disciplinary contractor, headquartered near Southampton, received the industry accolades in the annual health and safety awards held by Guernsey Occupational Safety & Health Association (GOSHA).
More than 100 guests attended the annual dinner at Old Government House Hotel, St Peter Port, Guernsey, to see the presentation of awards by Deputy Kevin Stewart, the island’s minister for commerce and employment.
Trant’s Darren Bishop was awarded winner for his individual contribution, with the company receiving the construction sector award as well.
Trant, a privately-owned company with 700 staff, was highly commended in the large organisation category.
David Bacon, Trant’s health and safety manager, said: “Occupational health and safety issues have never been more important and we look at every angle to ensure safe working procedures.
“The recognition from GOSHA is credit to employees like Darren and our site teams in this most important aspect of our industry.”
Judging criteria included actions, policies and procedures above the basic legal requirement, workforce engagement and training backed by a clear policy, appropriateness and assessment of competence.
