Extra life is being breathed into Lincoln’s High Street and new jobs are on the menu, thanks to an extra shot of action by a national coffee chain.
Lincoln-based chartered surveyor Banks Long & Co today revealed that, acting on behalf of a private client, it has leased premises formerly occupied by Milletts to Costa Coffee, in a move which is understood to be creating 20 jobs.
The news is particularly good for this section of the High Street, because Costa is revamping and moving into a retail outlet near to the Lincoln branch of HMV, which recently escaped closure after the music giant went into administration.
This investment further underlines Costa’s faith in Lincoln, where it also has coffee shops within Waterstones, at St Mark’s, within the city’s Odeon Cinema and a Costa Express in the University of Lincoln shop.
Banks Long & Co Director James Butcher said: “Although it is still tough on the UK’s High Streets, Lincoln – with its large student population and growing shopping offering – continues to hold its own.
“There remains a decent number of multiple retailers with outstanding requirements for prime units in Lincoln City Centre so, consequently once we became aware that Milletts was intending to vacate, we were quietly confident that it would not remain empty for long.”
