Leading commercial developer, Trebor Developments, have achieved practical completion on Crown Packaging Manufacturing UK Limited’s new beverage can manufacturing facility in Peterborough. The finished unit provides 632,000 sq ft of production and distribution accommodation that also includes new headquarter offices and a fully automated clad rack system. It is Crown’s largest beverage can manufacturing facility in Europe, providing significant capital investment into Peterborough & surrounds and hundreds of jobs.
The unit is entirely bespoke and has transformed the former MARS Petcare site in Peterborough, a significant 30-acre brownfield regeneration opportunity following its demolition in 2014. Trebor and Hillwood were selected to deliver this prestigious scheme in autumn 2021 and have since worked closely with Crown to successfully deliver this complex new development on an extremely fast-track programme.
Greg Dalton, Development Director for Trebor, commented:
“We are delighted to have reached practical completion on this significant project for all parties involved, and one that has huge local and regional significance. Our Project Management team, technical consultants, and legal representatives have worked tirelessly to get this over the line on a programme that has meant that we achieved Practical Completion and Crown starting their production simultaneously. We have no doubt the facility will be a big success for Crown.”
Richard Ford, Director of Project Management & Engineering for Crown, commented:
“Achieving Practical Completion of our new state-of-the-art facility marks the transition of this major construction project into a high speed aluminium beverage can manufacturing operation serving the demand of our customers in the UK and contributing to employment in the Peterborough region for many years to come. CROWN wish to thank Trebor Developments and the entire project team for their contributions and commitment to deliver such an impressive plant and meet this key milestone.”
