Over 75 new jobs have been created at Bourn, one of Coventry’s most sustainable and recently refurbished office buildings.
Corona Energy has secured space in the six storey, net zero ready offices and Bourn’s green credentials have played a crucial role in securing the deal.
Previously known as Sherbourne House, Bourn runs on 100% renewably sourced energy, is BREEAM Very Good and has an EPC rating of A.
Transformed by Solihull based IM Properties (IMP) through a £9m refurbishment, Bourn is attracting occupiers keen to reflect their own net zero commitment and buy into the partnership approach Bourn offers on sustainability, wellbeing, and community.
CEO Neil Mitchell of Corona Energy, a leading independent gas and electricity supplier for the industrial and commercial gas market said that whilst Bourn’s location at the heart of the Midland’s utilities hub was key, they considered the offices to best in class in the local area for sustainability, compared even to new builds.
“Being an energy company, we recognise the importance of net zero and the impacts of climate change on our customers and it’s important we lead by example and set the standard for the businesses which select us as their partner to deliver energy.
“We’ve created new customer service jobs initially, recruiting from a strong existing talent pool in Coventry and its surrounding areas which we believe offer us the stability we require to continue delivering first class customer service.”
The 90,000 sq ft smart enabled building on 1 Manor House Drive, has its own dedicated App to allow sharing of energy and waste data, encouraging the use of city centre amenities and helping to build an engaged building community through social and community events.
Rob Hemus, asset director for IM Properties said the letting was positive news for the city, creating job opportunities and demonstrating the market’s readiness for a more integrated approach to sustainable building management, aligned with the future wellbeing of the planet.
“We are more focussed than ever on ensuring buildings have a positive impact on the local environment and community through our Sustainable Future’s framework of People, Planet and Place, investing only in best-in-class offices.
‘To achieve this on a refurbishment is something we are immensely proud of, and we hope will set a precedent for future endeavours in the city.”
In addition to its green credentials, Bourn encourages sustainable travel through 16 EV car charging points and the capacity to increase to 48 in the future. It also has a dedicated cycle hub set up for storage of electric and foldup bikes, with a bike maintenance station as well as changing facilities, showers, and blue-tooth heated lockers.
Internally the building offers a new dual entrance, double height atrium, bright open floor plates with stripped back and new exposed M&E.
A focus on wellbeing ensures air quality is constantly monitored, and natural light maximised with an abundance of indoor plants to promote biophilia. Externally too, green open spaces with seating help to unify the design and offer wellbeing breakout space for employees to enjoy.
A Social Hub at the rear of the building provides further breakout areas, active standing stations and a Zip Tap offering filtered, chilled water with seating and room for people to meet and hold events.
A dedicated, high-speed, dual entry fibre ethernet infrastructure wi-fi system has been installed, which will help future proof businesses in an increasingly digital business environment.
CBRE and Bromwich Hardy are acting as agents on Bourn.
