Property consultants Alder King, acting on behalf of a private individual, have let the former Westgate Furnishers retail showroom at 86-90 Winchcombe Street, Cheltenham to St Vincent’s and St George’s Association, a local charity with 125 years experience providing support and care services to vulnerable members of the community.
The charity secured change of use consent and signed a new 25 year lease on the on the 8,997 sq ft three storey property which has now been sensitively redeveloped to provide a modern activities and therapy centre.
John Hawkins, associate at Alder King’s Gloucester office, said: “Whilst the retail market continues to struggle, it would have been difficult to find a retailer requiring that amount of space.
“This is a well-known prominent building that has been given a new lease of life with the opening of the Phoenix centre.”
Celia Kay of St Vincent’s and St George’s Association says that the property fulfils all its service requirements. “A review last year identified the need for more space, more complimentary therapies and a location closer to the town centre. The first time we saw the property, we were convinced it was ideal to deliver a modern service in a unique environment.”
The Phoenix centre now provides fully accessible therapies and activities such as AquaMassage and Far Infra-Red Technology, together with a cafe and meeting/function rooms.
Celia added: “We are delighted with the outcome of this project and look forward to the Phoenix centre becoming a truly inclusive hub for the community.”
