The long leasehold of a 186,000 sq ft modern industrial property in Avonmouth has been sold to Grundon Waste Management Ltd, paving the way for the family-run company to create a new regional centre for the West of England area.
Philip Atkinson, Estates Director for Grundon Waste Management says,
“We are pleased to have concluded this acquisition which unifies our existing holdings in the area into a single, ring-fenced, 13-acre waste, energy, and recycling estate.
“Importantly for us, it offers us the space to develop new service offerings and incubate our early-stage technologies and processes.”
The site at the Access 18 industrial development on Avonmouth Way, was sold on behalf of New Earth (West) by strategic real estate adviser Avison Young.
The site was previously constructed and operated by New Earth as a Mechanical & Biological Treatment facility for the sorting, recycling, and composting of residual black bag waste on behalf of local authorities.
Paul Hobbs, Director at Avison Young in Bristol, who secured the sale, says,
“Built in 2010 to both recycle and to create energy from waste, this unique project site is a local landmark. The closure and availability of the building reflected a fast-changing picture in the South West where waste to energy facilities have massively increased in size and potential throughput. Two recently built facilities in Avonmouth now produce up to 68MW of power (serving up to 100,000 homes) vs the original 11MW capability of this site.
“The site is ideally situated close to Junction 18 of the M5, providing Grundon with a great location to continue its strategic growth in the region.”
Paul continues,
“There appears to be no slow-down in the demand for well-located industrial premises, and combined with limited supply in the city, Avonmouth continues to hold the key for many occupiers.”
Grundon Waste Management was founded in 1929, with its leading position within the waste industry underpinned by its commitment to service, innovation, and technical progress, together with a genuine and demonstrable concern for the environment.
