Work has just begun on one of the last development sites available on London Road, the main southern arterial gateway to Wellingborough, which will deliver a new roadside retail scheme.
Wellingborough Trade Park provides for five new retail/trade-counter units on a prominent 1.1 acre site, formally developed by Gloverall in the early to mid 1960s as a state-of-the-art factory manufacturing their famous duffle coats. Having brokered the sale of the site a couple of years ago, award-winning commercial property consultancy Prop-Search, has subsequently agreed the pre-let of 90% of the scheme.
Tenants signed up to take accommodation include Formula 1 Auto Centre, which is leasing a 4,400 sq ft tyre, exhaust, MOT and servicing centre; a new concept drive-thru for Greggs; the UK’s largest independent decorating chain Brewers; and plumbing, heating and electrical supplier City Plumbing.
Simon Toseland, a Director of sole letting agent Prop-Search, said: “The construction of the 14,100 sq ft scheme will see the development of a prominent brownfield site on one of the main routes in and out of the town.”
“It is a shot in the arm for the local area in the early stages of the post-pandemic recovery and will undoubtedly enhance the retail opportunities available as well as generating significant new employment prospects.”
“There have been many proposals for the development of this site over the last 15 years, but certain challenges have previously prevented the site coming forward. Working with specialist trade park developer, Ambit Developments and the Barkby Group plc, we have successfully brought forward this site and are delighted that construction has now commenced.
Completion of the scheme is scheduled for later this year.
