Nationwide Platforms, a UK leader in providing machinery for working at height, has relocated from Ashton Gate in Bristol into larger premises on Merebank Road, Avonmouth.
The new site will serve as Nationwide’s servicing, maintenance and training operation for Bristol. The 24,000 sq ft unit benefits from a large yard, which means the firm has been able to grow its fleet to almost 1,000 machines, a 30% increase in capacity compared with its former premises. Nationwide will employ approximately 100 people at its Avonmouth base.
Real estate adviser JLL’s industrial agency teams in Bristol and London worked together to identify a suitable site and broker the off market acquisition deal for Nationwide Platforms, whose former location is due to be redeveloped. JLL’s building surveying team supported Nationwide Platforms with its relocation and the fit-out of its Avonmouth regional depot. The fit-out works included additional office space and loading doors.
Henry de Teissier, associate in industrial and logistics at JLL in Bristol, said: ‘’It’s fantastic to see Nationwide in their new Avonmouth premises. This is the culmination of an extensive search for the right facility that would suit their operation and allow a smooth exit from their existing facility in Ashton Gate. Working alongside Tom Shaw in our Strategic Occupier Solutions team in London and Nationwide Platforms, we identified this option before it came to market and are delighted their new premises enables their future growth across the Bristol area.”
Christopher Paasch, head of building consultancy at JLL in Bristol, said: “The new facility provides onsite customer training space and additional loading doors to suit Nationwide’s bespoke operation.”
Brian Stead, commercial services director at Nationwide Platforms, said: ‘’Nationwide Platforms had been looking for a suitable location for a number of years knowing that the existing site was to be developed by the landlord. The business demands for a very large site in an industrial area with excellent road links was always going to be difficult even in a rapidly developing city like Bristol.
“Working jointly with JLL we secured the site and JLL worked closely with the landlord’s agents to put a rapid transition plan to meet our specific business model. Day to day project management of the transition was through JLL’s Bristol team who overcame a number of design and implementation challenges to deliver in a timely manner. We anticipate a number of similar projects over the next 2 years as our business continues to grow and I will be looking to build on this project success by engaging JLL.”
Hartnell Taylor Cook represented the landlord.
