Temple Quay Street Food Market marks 10 years of trading with extended opening

Marking 10 years since the start of the ever-popular Temple Quay street food market in Bristol, organisers Square Route Events have announced that the market will be expanding to open twice a week.

Due to the popularity of the long-established Thursday lunchtime market at Temple Quay, at the heart of Bristol’s business quarter, a food market will also be held on Tuesday lunchtimes starting from 21 June.

The new Tuesday market will give the opportunity for visitors to the market to experience a host of different food operators, such as Filipino street food from Aurora Kusina, Smak Bristol serving Swedish inspired meatball dishes, and gourmet street food pasta from Toff’s Pasta.

Temple Quay market is known to be one of the busiest in the city, and since September 2021, as more staff have returned from working at home to the offices there, the market is returning to pre-pandemic levels, attracting upwards of 1,000 customers every Thursday.

Real estate adviser Avison Young is the managing agent for Temple Quay. Director Paul Williams, who is also a board member of The Redcliffe and Temple Bid (Business Improvement District) says that the expansion of the street food market is a real vote of confidence in the area helping create a vibrant destination:

“The food market is a highlight of the week for many people, and a great incentive to help businesses encourage their staff back to the office, so to see the market expanding by popular demand to a twice weekly offering is excellent news and indicates that the return to the office is gathering pace.

“We know that being back in the workplace is so important for boosting collaboration and team-working; providing learning opportunities for younger employees as well as improving mental health and social interactions. Supporting local businesses who depend on the trade, this expansion of the market is an excellent indicator of the recovery of the Bristol economy post-lockdown.”

David Pyne of Square Route Events says, “We’re so pleased to see people return in such numbers as Temple Quay continues to welcome back workers. By adding an extra day to the market, we are able to offer new food options as well as some of the traditional favourites to the hundreds of customers who visit every week.”

Ross and Amber Smithwick of Aurora Kusina, say,

“We’re over the moon to be joining Temple Quay market alongside some of our favourite food traders, we’ve heard great things and are excited to be a part of the new line up on Tuesdays! We will be offering our take on Filipino comfort food with dishes like Chicken Adobo (the unofficially national dish of the Philippines) loaded spring rolls and some of our favourite sweet treats. With gluten free and vegan options too, we hope we have something for everyone!”

To mark the start of the Tuesday market, there will be some special giveaways offering visitors the chance to win some tasty lunch prizes.
