Peeks, the patriotic party people, have revealed that 2012 was a bumper year with May being its busiest ever month.
The Jubilee celebrations prompted Brits to bedeck the whole country in red, white and blue bunting – much of which came from the Christchurch-based firm.
Peeks has seen nothing like it in over 65 years of trading and said it proves that the Queen is a much-loved monarch.
Despite being a bit of a wash-out, the Jubilee celebrations on the weekend of June 2-5 was a huge event with pubs, clubs, hotels and individuals all taking part.
Peeks’ party packs flew off the shelves in the run-up to the occasion pushing May’s figures through the roof.
The company bought in 100 miles of bunting, a million flags and countless other themed goods in preparation for the Jubilee.
With the Olympic Games in London as well as the traditional celebrations such as Valentine’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, St George’s Day, Halloween, Fireworks Night and Christmas, 2012 was a bumper year for Peeks.
The only sad event was the loss of founder Charles Peek, who died aged 91.
His grandson and present managing director Nick Peek, said: “We have never had a better month than May 2012.
“We noticed the year before that the Royal wedding of William and Kate got people very excited and we predicted that it would whet the nation’s appetite for the Jubilee.
“That turned out to be the case and as well as shipping goods around Britain we sent them all over the world to ex-pat communities and the military.
“Our party store in Christchurch was heaving that month and it was just as well that we prepared like we did.
“This year we have all the usual events – with Valentine’s Day and St Patrick’s Day coming up – but we will also have a royal baby in July, so it will be interesting to see how people decide how to celebrate it.”
