In Support of Local Talent

Morris Property has announced the winner of its design competition to create brand designs for its new commercial property site in Shrewsbury.

Robin Morris, Chairman of Morris Property declared Sam Ashton the winner at an awards ceremony attended by all four finalists, their college course leader, Adam Constantine and Morris Property.

The competition was open to Graphic Communications students at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College who were given the chance to design a brand concept, including logo and rationale, for the new Battlefield site.

17 year old Sam was presented with his winning certificate, a £700 cash prize to assist him on his design course and awarded work experience with a professional graphic designer at Seal, Morris Property’s sister company, a leading Birmingham-based communications agency.

Robin Morris, Chairman of Morris Property, said: “It was fantastic to see the talented students putting their skills into practice to meet our challenge. We were bowled over by the calibre of entries and how the students presented their concepts which made choosing a winner a difficult decision.

“However, Sam’s design is a very worthy winner – his work shows intricacy and creative flair and he had thought long and hard about how the design would be applied in a commercial environment, as well as its overall visual appeal and relevance to the site name. It will be exciting for Sam to see his work featured at the new development in due course – and we are proud to be championing young home-grown talent.”

The three runners-up Jodie Walton, Oliver Vanes and Ben White also seriously impressed the judges who included Liz Lowe and Steve Pummell from Morris Property. None of the finalists left the presentation empty handed. They were each presented with a certificate and £100 to put towards equipment and materials for their studies.

Sam Ashton, competition winner, said: “I was really surprised and so pleased to have won the competition and it is amazing to think that my design will be seen by so many people at the development next year. It was great having the chance to see how I could adapt my knowledge and skills in graphic design and apply them to a real brief.

“Thanks to Morris Property this is illustrating my work to a wide audience. I am now really looking forward to my work experience at Seal and gaining some valuable hands on experience in an agency environment.”
