A tax specialist in the South has been recruited by the South Coast practice of accountancy and investment management group Smith & Williamson.
Paul Duckworth joins the Southampton office as a partner following 12 years in the port city with, respectively, accountancy firms BDO and PwC.
One of his roles will be to provide market leading advice to companies and shareholders, as well as help promote the business for Smith & Williamson across the Solent region.
Paul, 44, who is married with three children and lives near Fareham in Hampshire, also specialises in the UK’s manufacturing and technology sectors.
In a number of cases he has recouped substantial tax relief on research and development activities, usually increasing a company’s original claim significantly by understanding their business and applying the tax rules to the activity, especially on software design.
Paul, a Chartered Tax Adviser, said: “Smith & Williamson is recognised as a trusted adviser to both private clients and businesses in the increasingly complex and politically sensitive world of tax compliance and I look forward to helping this highly respected firm continue to grow from strength to strength.”
Richard Green, who heads up the South Coast practice as managing partner, said: “Paul is regarded as one of the leading tax specialists in his field in the region, forging strong relationships with clients, from start-ups to listed companies. We are delighted to have him on board.”
