London’s must-visit plant-based eatery, Clean Kitchen Club, has been revealed as one of the restaurants to be opening its doors inside the capital’s highly anticipated culinary hotspot, Battersea Power Station from September 2022.
Clean Kitchen will join the Grade II* Listed Power Station as one of the newest restaurants on the market, sitting alongside a tranche of well-renowned brands and restaurants, including coveted Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen & Bar, Middle Eastern favourite Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are and Poke House. The under 30 Founders of Clean; Made in Chelsea star Verity Bowditch and former YouTuber, Mikey Pearce, have taken the restaurant from strength to strength since launch, having received £1.4m funding with a £7.5m valuation in a first seed round last October.
Marking its sixth site opening after launching just 15 months ago, this latest opening puts the restaurant one step further in its mission to normalise plant-based food and get foodies across the UK to live and eat more sustainably.
Situated within Battersea Power Station’s Turbine Hall B, the restaurant is a staggering 2,441 sq. ft. The site promises a high energy environment, offering both dine-in and grab and go to suit every diner’s need, plus specially crafted vegan cocktails to perfectly transition from day to night.
Mikey Pearce, Co-Founder and CEO commented: “This opening is incredibly huge for us and will definitely go down in Clean Kitchen history! We’re growing at a staggering 30% month on month, and to be included in Battersea Power Station’s restaurant line up is a fantastic achievement for us and something we’re immensely proud of. Having grown up just across the river, opening a restaurant inside an iconic London landmark which I’ve seen transform into a new neighbourhood for the capital over the years is a real pinch me moment! Serving good tasting and healthy plant-based food is our heartland and we can’t wait to invite people through our doors at Battersea Power Station so they can taste what we have to offer.”
Sam Cotton, Head of Leasing at Battersea Power Station Development Company, added: “Battersea Power Station has emerged as one of London’s leading food and drink destinations and this will only become stronger with the great mix of cafés, bars and restaurants opening inside the Power Station from this September. With more and more people keen to try plant-based food, we knew including a restaurant with veganism at its core would be high in demand for our visitors, and we couldn’t think of a better partner than Clean Kitchen Club, with its fresh and dynamic approach to plant-based eating.”
The new opening announcement comes as Clean Kitchen became the first plant-based food and lifestyle brand to publish carbon values for each of its items, which are now visible on menus in-store. Working with sustainability specialists, My Emissions and leading by example on the way to label food for other restaurants, certain items are placed in the ‘Grade A’ emissions category which translates to a ‘Very Low’ carbon rating. A typical beef burger in comparison has a staggering 2.11kg carbon footprint and is rated ‘E’ on the My Emissions scale, the highest rating, meaning a very high carbon footprint.
What is more, this year, Clean Kitchen plans to go one step further by launching its very own range specifically for retail, as well as continuing to cater for high-profile clients. With Dior and Tenzing already on the roster, the British Fashion Council has also announced Clean Kitchen as the only vegan caterer to some of Fashion Weeks most current and on-trend brands at this year’s London Fashion Week.
Once completed, Battersea Power Station will form the centrepiece of a new ‘15-minute’ live, work and play neighbourhood, which will act as a town centre for the immediate and wider local communities, a new business quarter for the capital and a leisure destination for Londoners and international visitors. The Power Station will be home to 254 residential apartments, over 100 retail shops with brands including Ray-Ban, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, The Kooples and Aēsop, restaurants and cafés, including an 20,000 sq ft food hall, office and unique event spaces, as well as a Chimney Lift Experience offering 360° views from the top of the Power Station’s North West chimney.
