In 2009 Kim Churcher was running MVRRS Ltd, her training company from home after resigning from her role as Senior Training Manager for a national training company.
Three years later in a letting managed by M4 Property Consultants, the company has leased 3,500sqft of Emlyn House on Commercial Street , Newport, employs 22 full time staff with four more due to start before Christmas and have helped over 700 learners gain new skills and accreditations.
“It’s been a frantic couple of years building the business,” said Kim. “We have grown faster than expected and have had to move four times to accommodate for this.”
Originally delivering a range of Health and Social Care Courses, MVRR has carefully recruited new trainers and assessors to not only increase the number of courses the company is qualified to deliver in this sector, they now provide equivalent courses for the IT, Business, Customer Service and Childcare sectors. Kim’s husband Chris Churcher has also joined the business in the role of Finance and HR director and is currently negotiating the purchase/lease of a unit in Risca to enable them to provide engineering courses.
The quick growth has also meant frequent moves to upsize, Kim explains, “We’ve had to move offices four times in three years due to our growth! Hopefully the new offices in Emlyn House will be big enough for accommodate us for a least the next couple of years! We’ve been able to modernise the interior of the building to convert offices into classrooms, presentation rooms and ICT suite and break out areas. The central location also makes it easily accessible for public transport.”
Dan Smith, director of M4 Property Consultants worked with MVRRS and the owners of Emlyn House to secure the lease. He said, “When Kim and Chris approached M4 Property Consultants to ask for information about Emlyn House it was immediately apparent they were commercially astute and had a business plan in place to maximise the full potential of the available space. There is still space available on other floors in Emlyn House for either MVRRS to expand into or for other occupiers.”
MVRRS are now working with learners of all abilities and backgrounds. They provide bespoke training courses for employers as well as sub contract their services to other training providers. The company is helping a growing number of learners who have been made redundant or have been unemployed for over three months. Kim said, “It’s very rewarding being able to offer the scope of services that we can. We are able to help so many more learners and employers and although its getting a bit more difficult now the numbers have increased we do try to keep track of the progress made by our learners once they leave us.”
