Bristol’s newest hotel, the 151 bedroom Travelodge in Mitchell Lane, in the Redcliffe area of central Bristol, has been completed to time and to budget. Project managers GVA have now handed the hotel over to Travelodge for the first guests to move in.
The new hotel, which includes a 29-space car park in the basement, also houses a ground floor commercial unit, which is currently being marketed and has been secured with planning consent for commercial, retail and leisure use. A bar and 90 covers café are situated within the hotel which has five upper floors.
Work on the hotel, built on previously open land, was completed within the specified 48 week period.
James Stanger, project manager, and director at Bristol-based property adviser GVA, says, “The hotel is situated in an area of Bristol with old, narrow streets densely occupied with both offices and apartments, and within a flood zone. As such, the design and build programme has included measures to protect against the impact of flooding, and to ensure neighbours’ right to light.
“Thanks to the commitment and professionalism of all the contractors and consultants involved in the project to overcome the challenges, we are delighted to have handed over the hotel to Travelodge on time, and within budget.”
The main contractor was Anglo Holt Construction. The building is owned by a client of CB Richard Ellis Investors.
The first budget hotel brand to launch in the UK in 1985, and the UK’s fastest growing hotel chain, Travelodge now operates 475 hotels and 33,479 rooms across the UK, Ireland (11) and Spain (3). Travelodge plans to grow its estate to 1,100 hotels and 100,000 rooms by 2025.
