A Staffordshire leisure contractor has won a third contract for a major refurbishment of student facilities at Cardiff University
Rugeley-based Kribensis Leisure Contracts will be carrying out the quarter-million refit in the University’s student accommodation block, working to a design concept drawn up by Kribensis’s sister company, GMP design.
The contract involves a new student lounge, with meeting facilities, a vending area and a “chill zone.” The design includes GMP’s specially developed Skype pods to allow students to stay in contact with family and friends at home, as well as iPod dock booths. The aim is to produce a facility which can be hired out as a conference venue in the summer.
This is the third contract at Cardiff University for Kribensis. Last year the firm carried out phase one of the project which involved transforming the Students Union snooker and games room into an international lounge, reflecting the university’s multi-cultural population. Earlier this year Kribensis carried out the second phase of the Students Union development, which included conference facilities.
The Cardiff project is one of several University projects carried out by the Kribensis and GMP Design teams. They have also completed the refurbishment of student facilities at Northampton University, the Students Union bar at Leicester De Montfort University, and completely redesigned The Academi, a nightclub for students at Bangor University. They have also completed the refit of a student club at the University of Westminster and carried out work on leisure facilities at Loughborough and Portsmouth universities.
Kribensis, based on the Towers Business Park in Rugeley, was established 10 years ago and has become a UK leader in new builds and refits in the leisure and hospitality industries.
