Cambridge-based property investor and developer Howard Group has announced the appointment of Stephen Brewer to the new role of Director – Construction & Programme Delivery.
Stephen will advise on the technical construction and programme delivery of the major development projects in Howard Group’s pipeline, working in close collaboration with the Howard Group team and external professional partners. A key part of Stephen’s role will also be to help strengthen and shape the team for the future, providing experience and advice to inform key future appointments.
In line with Howard Group’s core objective to deliver positive and lasting commercial, environmental and social value, Stephen’s initial focus will be the next phase of Unity Campus, a new concept in business space to meet the great demand for flexible lab-enabled offices in the South Cambridge technology and life science cluster.
Stephen has an exemplary career track record of delivering complex and high-profile development projects, from inception to completion. He previously led the in-house project management team at Grosvenor Britain & Ireland (GBI) over a 20-year period, with a highlight being the design and delivery of the £1bn urban regeneration project Liverpool One.
He has overseen the successful construction of the new state-of-the-art £300m Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) for the UK Armed Forces and continues to fulfil a similar role for the Black Stork Charity, whose aim is promoting excellence in rehabilitation.
Stephen is also closely associated with the Construction Youth Trust, a registered charity committed to helping young people access training, education and employment opportunities in the construction industry.
Werner Baumker, Group Director – Property, Howard Group said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen to the team at a pivotal time in the delivery of our property strategy. He has successfully led the delivery of several major commercial developments with social impact and lasting commercial value at the core; Howard Group will benefit enormously from his knowledge and expertise. Today’s announcement demonstrates our confidence in the market, our commitment to investing in team, and an acceleration of our exciting projects.”
Stephen Brewer added: “While it’s been a challenging time for all businesses, it’s important we continue to plan for tomorrow and invest in the future. I’m thrilled to be joining a company which demonstrably lives its purpose of improving and enriching lives through responsible investing in people, places and ideas; all values I personally hold dear. By being agile and adapting to change, as well as being surrounded by some fantastic people, I have no doubt the Howard Group can continue to deliver exceptional development programmes.
“I look forward to playing my part in driving and delivering Howard Group’s ambitious and demand-driven development programme, including the next phase of Unity Campus, a critically important project for the Cambridge Cluster and the wider region, designed to meet the physical and locational demands of the UK’s brightest business talent and innovators.”
