A new 260, 000 sq. ft. industrial unit will be built at Wakefield Hub on behalf of a German pharmaceutical company; the latest deal announced at the 200-acre development.
Wakefield Hub is being delivered by Newmarket Lane Ltd, a joint venture between property developers HBD and Yorkcourt.
The scheme is one of the largest regeneration projects of its kind in the North of England. Regenerating a former mining site, the development will secure vital inward investment and create hundreds of new jobs, helping to create a thriving local economy in Wakefield.
Located close to Junction 30 of the M62, Wakefield Hub has seen strong interest from potential occupiers. Planning applications are currently in the system for a further 2.2m sq. ft., and work has begun on a 65,000 sq. ft. unit for Kitwave Wholesale Group.
A planning application for this latest unit will be submitted in the coming months, with Newmarket Lane Ltd aiming to start on site later this year subject to planning permission being granted.
Scott Mackie, Director of Newmarket Lane Ltd, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to announce this latest deal at Wakefield Hub and we look forward to bringing the new unit forward. We’ve seen a lot of interest in the scheme already from potential occupiers, which is very positive – conversations are underway with a number of businesses, and we look forward to announcing further deals in the near future.”
Tom Wheldon, Director and Head of Region at HBD, said: “Wakefield Hub is one of the best locations for industrial and logistics operators in the North of England, providing unrivaled access to the M62, M1 and A1. It’s an important scheme for the local economy in Wakefield, with the potential to create hundreds of jobs and attracting new businesses and investment into the city.”
Simon Robinson, MD at ACR, the multi-disciplinary advisor to the pharmaceutical company, said: “We are delighted to be part of the team planning this exciting project at Wakefield Hub, and to provide that critical interface between the developer and end-user to ensure our client’s requirements are fully accommodated as the development unfolds.”
