Construction of one of the UK’s only carbon neutral industrial/warehouse developments has been completed, leading main contractor has MCS Group announced.
Midlands-based MCS Group has reached practical completion of the £4.5 million construction contract to deliver five units at Communication Park, in Hounslow, West London. The units range in size from 7,566 sq ft to 20,091 sq ft.
The contractor was instructed by Orchard Street Investment Management, the specialist commercial property investment manager, acting on behalf of St James Place UK plc.
Situated near Heathrow Airport and Cargo Terminal, Communication Park is one of the only industrial developments in the UK to be built as carbon neutral, with solar PV producing 212.10 kWp, saving 93.37 tonnes of CO2 per year.
Other sustainability features include occupier wellbeing designed into the heart of the scheme; solar gain and soundproofing protection to the windows; and VRF Comfort Cooling powered by carbon zero technology.
There is also edible landscaping, with the planting of fruit trees for occupiers to enjoy, as well as solar powered e-bike charging points in bike racks, views of green space, and CO2 absorbing sedum roofs to bin stores.
Keir Edmonds, MCS Group managing director, said: “We’ve gained a reputation as being amongst the very best construction contractors in the industrial and logistics sector. Our team has delivered a first class development at Communication Park, and the fact that it is one of the very few carbon neutral developments makes it all the more satisfying.”
