Colliers International UK supporting three charities in Around the World in 80 Days staff challenge

Colliers International UK employees are virtually walking and running together to cover 27,900km in 80 days and raise £27,900 for three charities.

The Colliers Around the World in 80 Days challenge encompasses the air distance from London to Hong Kong to Toronto and back again to London.

The sponsored event aims to match the number of kilometres travelled with the amount of money raised for the charities Mind, LandAid, and The Trussell Trust, and will conclude on Wednesday March 31.

In order to adhere to pandemic lockdown guidance, the total mileage is being covered by staff individually walking and running and then logging their distances and donating to a JustGiving page. Cycling is not included in the challenge because of lockdown travel restrictions, although distances covered by wheelchair are included.

Tony Horrell, Chief Executive Officer of Colliers International for UK and Ireland, who is among those taking part, said: “At Colliers we believe in making a difference together and doing what is right, and in keeping with this Colliers UK staff will be travelling around the world collectively in the biggest virtual challenge that we have so far undertaken.

“Over a period of 80 days we will be aiming to raise at least £27,900 for three charities supporting those who are suffering because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Whilst Phileas Fogg, the hero of Jules Verne’s novel ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ used various forms of transport at locations around the globe after setting off from London, we are virtually travelling the air distance from the Colliers office in London to our office in Hong Kong, then on to the company headquarters in Toronto and then back to London, which is a total of 27,900 kilometres.”
