Following the decision by the UK Government to rationalise the future manufacturing operations of disability employer Remploy, DLP Surveyors have been successfully appointed to market 4 of the South Wales factory operations which have faced closure. These include the premises at Swansea, Merthyr Tydfil, Croespenmaen and Aberdare, totaling some 144,300 sq.ft. of industrial floorspace which is coming onto the market.
The properties that are due to be marketed include 54,000 sq.ft. at Fforestfach, Swansea, 41,000 sq.ft. at Cyfarthfa, Merthyr Tydfil, 33,000 sq.ft. at Croespenmaen, Blackwood, and 16,000 sq.ft. at Cwmbach, Aberdare. The properties are a combination of freehold and long leasehold interests for which Remploy are seeking outright disposals.
Commenting on the appointment, Michael Bruce of DLP Surveyors commented, “News of any factory redundancies, whether in South Wales or anywhere else, is always disappointing and the recent announcement of the Remploy closures is particularly poignant under these very difficult economic trading conditions. However although we are still in the very early days of marketing we have already received serious expressions of interest in all 4 properties from existing occupiers in the surrounding areas. We therefore remain very optimistic that employment will once again be generated within these properties within a short space of time.”
