Bolton Regeneration Ltd (BRL), the developers and investors behind the £250m redevelopment of Crompton Place Shopping Centre, have confirmed that work on the new centre is anticipated to start towards the end of 2021.
BRL, a joint venture between Beijing Construction Engineering Group International and Granite Turner (formerly known as Midia), received planning approval in July for the scheme, known as ‘Bolton Victoria Square’.
The group is progressing plans and hopes a phased demolition can start towards the end of 2021 – retailers have been informed that they are expected to be able to trade in the centre until November 2021.
BRL’s plans for the Crompton Place site include a 110-bedroom hotel, 150 homes, office space, and a mixed-use retail, leisure and dining space.
Steven Turner, Director of Bolton Regeneration Ltd, said:
“BRL is working very hard to safeguard the delivery of the development and to ensure the new development will transform Bolton town centre.
“We are confident the scheme will stimulate significant economic growth across the borough and become a destination the entire community can be proud of.”
The shopping centre is owned by Bolton Council, and is one of the five areas earmarked for development in its £1.2bn town centre masterplan.
Cllr David Greenhalgh, Leader of Bolton Council, added: “A redeveloped Crompton Place will be the centrepiece of the £1.2bn transformation of Bolton town centre.
“Despite the challenging economic climate, this progress shows that investors have confidence in our vision to make the town centre a great place to visit, work and live.
“This announcement also gives much needed certainty to the many excellent traders in Crompton Place and we continue to work with them to help find alternative sites.”
