A new director has been appointed at a Shropshire windscreen company following the retirement of the founders of the firm.
John Smallman first started with National Windscreens 21 years ago as a windscreen fitter.
He worked his way up the promotional ladder to company manager during his 15 years’ service before leaving the firm to concentrate on his family.
Five years on the father-of-two from Lawley Village has returned to the company after being appointed director.
Dave and Janet Morgan, who launched Morgan’s Windscreens Ltd in 1979 boasting branches in Telford,Oswestry and Wolverhampton and later became a founding member of National Windscreens, appointed Mr Smallman prior to their retirement.
Mr Smallman, 40, and James Morgan, 37, who has been a director at the company for the last 10 years, will be running the firm together.
Mr Smallman said: “It is a privilege to return to National Windscreens but it is an end of an era for Dave and Janet who have led a fantastic business with firstly the opening of Telford before expanding with branches in Oswestry and Wolverhampton.
“James and I are excited about moving the company forward with the highest standards and customer service at the forefront.
“Many members of the team are people I employed during my time as company manager so I am a familiar face and it already feels like I’ve never been away.”
James Morgan, who has worked with his father since leaving school said: “John and I have worked very closely together in the past and are both looking forward to the future of the company.
“We have an excellent team of fitters across the three branches who offer a 24/7 service and we hope to increase that team in future years.
“We also hope to offer similar opportunities to those John and I were as young windscreen fitters, such as work experience and apprenticeship schemes.
“This is an exciting development but a sad day to see my mum and dad leave the firm.”
Dave Morgan said: “It is the right time for us to leave the company and to enjoy our retirement but most importantly the right time to leave the company with the right people.
“We are very confident our son James and John will ensure the company continues to go from strength to strength as it has done over the last 33 years.”
