The Swindon office of Alder King has let an attractive double fronted restaurant/shop unit in the heart of Swindon’s bustling Old Town district.
The former Helen Browning’s Chop House at 19-21 Wood Street is currently being fitted out and will re-open in early December as a delicatessen, café and store trading as Food Magpie.
The new tenant’s refurbishment of the property revealed the original Victorian glass signage of Green & Co Dispensing Chemists which occupied the property around 150 years ago. The tenant was thrilled to find the sign, and has had it cleaned and restored. A new Food Magpie logo will be added to the main window below in a sympathetic style.
James Gregory, partner at Alder King, said: “The challenges facing many of the well-known names on our high streets have been well-reported but it’s very encouraging to see the level of activity from independent retailers and restauranteurs.
“This unit – situated in a prime location on one of Old Town’s finest streets – attracted a lot of interest, so much so that we invited best bids to secure the best outcome for our client. It’s great to see the property being fitted out ready to trade once the lockdown is lifted and to see the original signage. We wish Liz and Sarah every success.”
The unit provides 1,032 sq ft of ground floor accommodation and has been taken on a new 10 year lease.
