Award-winning national pet retailer, Just for Pets, has secured its first additional store at East Bridgford near Nottingham, as part of its expansion strategy announced in July this year.
The business’s new 4,500 sq ft space adjoins East Bridgford Garden and Home centre, an 81,000 sq ft flagship scheme operated by the national chain, Blue Diamond. Situated east of Nottingham and fronting the A46 Fosse Way, the Just for Pets property forms part of a new five-unit scheme. It is currently being fitted and is expected to open for trade at the end of November. Other neighbouring occupiers include the outdoor clothing retailer, Trespass, and a veterinary clinic.
Just for Pets was acquired with 16 locations in October 2017 by Pedigree Wholesale Ltd, a family-owned established distributor of nearly 50 years in the Pet industry. As part of its carefully planned expansion drive, Just for Pets enlisted national property consultancy, Carter Jonas to assist with its hunt for more stores. The firm’s Bristol-based Commercial property team is leading the search for suitable retail units of 2,500- 4,500 sq ft – although larger units will be considered. It is looking to secure a further six stores over the next twelve months, ideally in target locations bounded by Derby to the north, Bristol and Bath to the south and Hereford to Milton Keynes. On-site car parking is essential to the Just for Pets business model and focus is directed to roadside, the edge of town and retail park locations.
Stuart Williams, Partner, Commercial, Carter Jonas said: “It is a privilege to be working with this successful and expanding family business. Its team firmly believes in building strong relationships with its customers, the community, and their landlords. They are passionate about pets and providing households with a great in-store experience relaying knowledge and advice from their experienced in-house experts.
“We are considering space left by of the raft of business upheaval seen in recent months and welcome conversations with landlords with potential voids in their portfolios. Whilst several deals are in negotiation, twenty towns remain on our target list including Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham, Oxford, Stroud, Redditch and Witney amongst others. Regarded as an “essential retailer” under current pandemic guidelines, Just for Pets would be a welcome addition to any retail scheme.”
