The Midcounties Co-operative has signed an agreement to lease the anchor unit at the new local centre at Twigworth which forms part of a major development by Robert Hitchins Ltd.
The overall scheme will also include 725 homes being developed by national housebuilder Vistry, a primary school, parking, open space, landscaping and support infrastructure on a site adjoining the A38 Tewkesbury Road for which planning permission was granted in December 2017.
A reserved matters application in respect of the local centre has now been submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council.
It envisages a mixed-use scheme of six retail units with parking for 34 cars and an outside plaza on a .3 hectare site with a new access from Tewkesbury Road.
Commercial property agents Arc Retail are marketing the remaining units which will be available to rent once the local centre is completed towards the end of 2021.
Senior Development Manager for Robert Hitchins, Michael Plimmer, was pleased to welcome the Midcounties Co-Operative.
“We are excited about the proposed local centre which will offer much-needed, high quality and conveniently-located additional retail and leisure facilities for local residents.
“We are very pleased that the Midcounties Co-Operative, a major national convenience retailer, has agreed to be our anchor tenant and we look forward to working with them and other potential tenants for the supporting units in the scheme.”
