Key role preparing businesses for a more sustainable future

Surveyor Mark Kelly has joined commercial property specialists Colliers International to strengthen the Broad Quay-based firm’s Investment Property Management (IPM) team.

Originally from Nailsea, Mark has spent the past four years with Hartnell Taylor Cook. He has experience of working for a wide variety of property experts, ranging from institutional investors to private landlords.

Mark, who graduated with a first class degree from the University of the West of England, will be working alongside associate director Mike Bull with a number of top drawer clients including Aviva, Gainwell Property and Colliers Capital.

He said: “We are still operating in a very challenging market where improved property investment return will only be produced through hard work and proactive management.

“I am looking forward to working with landlords to maximise value within their portfolios by actively engaging with tenants, ensuring properties are maintained to the highest standard and tightening up property cash flow management.”

Mark is particularly interested in sustainability in the commercial property market and believes there is a real danger that poor energy performance will begin to damage property investment value, something which he believes will become more evident over the next five years.

He said: “Sustainability continues to move up the agenda for property owners and it is essential that they are aware of the implications of the raft of legislation which is poised to bring the commercial property world into line with current environmental considerations.”

“Whilst we are still waiting for some clarity from government over the implementation of legislation such as the Energy Act 2011, as with most areas of the green agenda, those who act early will likely be rewarded.”

Mike Bull, Associate Director with the Investment Property Management team, said: “Mark will be helping us to handle the ongoing growth in business for the team as we continue to raise our profile in the South West and capitalise on the company’s improved position since the buyout by First Service earlier this year.

“There is a new energy and focus to the business since April this year and it is this, combined with our small business, service-led approach underpinned with a big business infrastructure, that draws top grade commercially astute surveyors like Mark to Colliers. He’s a great addition to the team.”
