The NHS has selected the International Advanced Manufacturing Park (IAMP) for a temporary NHS Nightingale Hospital, located within the brand new, 126,000 sq. ft. Centre for Sustainable and Advanced Manufacturing (CESAM).
The IAMP is being delivered in joint venture between Sunderland City Council and South Tyneside Council, with property developer HBD as delivery partner.
HBD has worked to complete the building ahead of schedule, along with the infrastructure to serve the new building.
NHS Nightingale field hospitals are being created across the country, providing additional beds for those battling COVID-19, with the first at London’s Excel now fully operational.
Tom Wheldon, Director at HBD, said: “While we never imagined that CESAM would start its life as an NHS hospital, as a brand-new, world-class building it lends itself well to its new, if unexpected, purpose.
“We sincerely hope that the hospital isn’t needed, and the NHS remains able to cope within its existing capacity, but it’s prudent to be prepared and we’re pleased to have been able to support the NHS by bringing forward completion of the building and infrastructure. I’ve no doubt that CESAM will prove a sound choice for the North East’s Nightingale, providing a safe and comfortable environment to care for those battling this disease.”
