Avison Young has been appointed to provide valuation services for The Goodshed, Barry, a hugely inspirational project that will see the restoration of former heritage railway buildings in the town.
The Goodshed is being developed by Simon Baston’s company Loft Co. Over recent years Loft Co has won a string of national awards for its renovation and rebuilding of historic properties across South Wales.
Simon Baston explains, “The aim of this scheme is to bring together a new urban High Street which effectively provides a 24/7 live, work and play environment.”
Plans for The Goodshed include the conversion of the ground floor to provide three retail units with 11 residential apartments above.
Located opposite The Pumphouse, another development by Loft Co, all the residential units have been pre-sold, and the commercial units pre-let, prior to building work starting.
To the rear of the original Goodshed building, will be refurbished shipping containers to be used as a mix of shops, offices and restaurants.
Loft Co is looking to create a real sense of community at the Goodshed. There are plans to create a big screen on the side of the shipping containers showing films and sports events. In addition, the developer is looking to convert a small of number of traditional railway carriages into a farmer’s market style retail setting to include a butchers, bakers and florist.
Jonathan Davies MRICS, a valuation specialist at Avison Young in Cardiff says, “The concept at the Goodshed is to foster a live/work community where an experience for visitors is created, alongside an inspirational work environment. We have been able to combine our in-depth knowledge and experience of leisure and commercial environments when providing valuation services for this hugely exciting project.
“Loft Co is a renowned local developer with a reputation for delivering high quality schemes, and it’s a pleasure to be a key advisor to them on the redevelopment.”
