A young project management professional from Oxford has won a national accolade for his outstanding career achievements and unwavering commitment to inspire future talent after beating tough competition from 80 shortlisted surveyors, from all over the UK, at the annual RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards (YSOYA).
Charles Uezzell, a chartered surveyor at AECOM in the South West won the Project Management award at the YSOYA, which recognise the most talented and influential young surveyors – aged 35 or under – in the UK.
An inspiring professional with a passion for digital technologies, Charles has worked on influential projects including Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory at the National Physical Laboratory in London. Using his own initiative, he has created an interactive BIM guide to assist the Project Management team incorporating BIM standards and templates.
This resource has led him to being selected to be a member of the Technical Excellence working group. Within this role he has provided guidance and inter-office support as well as contributing to the standardisation of project management tools providing continuity across the global business.
Scottish TV presenter and Invictus Games medallist, JJ (John-James) Chalmers hosted the celebratory black-tie event held on Thursday 28 November at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London. The ten category awards* up for grabs on the night covered a variety of surveying sectors and disciplines, with Lewis recognised as the only winner from the North East. The overall esteemed ‘UK Young Surveyor of the Year’ title went to Blane Perrotton, Managing Director of Pride Consultancy IMS Ltd in London.
Head of the judging panel, Natasha Tyler of Powell Williams, and Chair of the RICS UK Matrics Board – a networking and support group for young surveyors – said: “Charles has an amazing track record as an ambassador within schools and universities. In addition to this he was keen to raise the profile of the profession and the benefits of belonging and re-formed the RICS Matrics group in Oxford several months ago. As part of this he has developed his mentoring to help others become chartered members of the RICS.”
