Harley Street Medical Centre, part of the international UME Group, has increased its presence in London’s Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) by leasing a building comprising 7,940 sq ft at 17 Harley Street from The Howard de Walden Estate.
It has agreed a 20-year lease and will relocate from 27 Harley Street to the Grade II-listed building once fit-out works are complete in early 2020.
The landlord’s development works included the restoration of an ornate ‘spider’s web’ design stucco ceiling on the first floor which is thought to date from the building’s construction around 1750.
Simon Baynham, Executive Property Director at The Howard de Walden Estate, commented: “The Harley Street Medical Area is a unique healthcare hub which attracts international clinics and specialist providers.
“We are pleased to be able to provide UME with a larger outpatient and diagnostic facility to continue its specialist healthcare provision.”
The HSMA encompasses a wide range of hospitals, clinics and specialists around Harley Street which deliver outstanding patient care through pioneering treatments and cutting-edge technologies. The area has more than 5,000 medical specialists working across 250 globally renowned clinics. HSMA attracts more than 1m patient visitors per year and its annual turnover as a business district exceeds £1bn.
UME’s Harley Street Medical Centre provides specialist services in cardiology, orthopaedics, ENT and advanced imaging and operates from two locations in the HSMA at 27 Harley Street and 79 Wimpole Street.
Nick Bird, CEO of UME Group UK, commented: “The HSMA is recognised as an international centre of excellence and we are delighted to further expand our presence in the area with such a prestigious facility”.
