A Shropshire public relations company will be giving sole traders and small businesses the chance to learn how to make their company a household name at a training day next month.
Kirsty Smallman, of Journalism and PR, will be hosting the Do It Yourself public relations training course at Telford’s e-Innovation Centre at the Priorslee campus of the University of Wolverhampton on September 5 from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
Mrs Smallman said the course was open to everyone and gave businesses who could not afford to run a PR campaign to learn how to do it themselves.
She said it was often very rewarding for people to learn how to write their own press releases aimed at their target market and then see them in print or on-line.
“The response we get from our training courses is fantastic. It is so rewarding to see press releases written following attendance on our course and then published in the local media.
“We only book a small number of people on each course so each person gets the attention they deserve.
“Small business owners very often do not realise how many PR opportunities their business creates,” Mrs Smallman said.
“The course will allow them to highlight and recognise what they have to offer and learn the skills needed so they can use PR to their advantage and to boost business using the local media.
“The course identifies what PR actually is, how to recognise a news story and how to write a press release, how to use photographs and how to build the relationship up with the local media.”
The three-hour DIY PR course also includes basic Twitter training and a question and answer session. It costs £75 and includes refreshments.
