Construction work on the Bristol Regional Centre, 3 Glass Wharf, has been completed and is now ready for internal ‘fit-out’, reveals HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The developer, Salmon Harvester Properties Ltd, has completed the build phase of the new regional centre, which began in November 2016. They presented the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride MP, with a ceremonial key at today’s ‘key-handover ceremony’, to mark the completion of 3 Glass Wharf’s construction.
Due to open in summer 2019, Bristol Regional Centre will be the second regional centre to welcome staff. It will be filled gradually over the next few years are HMRC grows its presence in the city and by 2021 will accommodate around 1,650 full-time equivalent employees.
At the ceremony Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mel Stride MP, said:
“This is a significant milestone for HMRC, which will bring together more than 1,600 colleagues into one central location.
“The department has a large and long established presence in the South West and the new regional centre in Bristol demonstrates its commitment to the region and its economy.
“I am pleased to accept this ceremonial key on behalf of HMRC and look forward to returning when the building opens later this year.”
The key-handover took place at 3 Glass Wharf in front of senior representatives from HMRC, Salmon Harvester Properties and Mace, as well as HMRC staff who will be working at 3 Glass Wharf.
The project has now progressed to the fit-out phase. HMRC has awarded the fit-out contract to Mace Interiors, who will be responsible for fitting the internal walls, ceilings, reception, lighting and fixings.
Located in Bristol city centre and a short distance from Temple Meads railway station, HMRC will be the major occupier for the 107,000 sq. ft. building comprising of eight floors and secure basement parking. Additional space will be made available for other government departments including Civil Service Human Resources. The ground floor will make way for commercial lettings.
HMRC’s Locations Programme has announced the locations of all 13 modern regional centres. Croydon Regional Centre opened in July 2017, Bristol and Belfast are nearing completion, and the remaining 10 sites have been secured.
