Simons Developments has acted for Lidl to secure an option agreement and forward land deal on a 4.1-acre site near Herne Bay, Kent. The vendor has signed a heads of terms agreement with the supermarket, meaning Lidl will purchase the land subject to planning permission being granted by Canterbury City Council.
The site is located at Roundabout Farm off the A2990 Old Thanet Way and is currently occupied by disused industrial buildings. Since the deal was struck, Simons Developments has been working with the vendor to obtain planning consent for a 23,000 sq ft retail unit. The plans also include a 125-space car park, landscaping and open space.
Simon Developments’ Development Director, Nick Blake said: “This deal allows us to seek planning consent and deliver a new neighbourhood food store. Lidl would make a great addition to the town’s retail offer and we look forward to helping them bring this development forward.”
